Review Best Buy GoPro Camera HD HERO2 Edition

Thursday, 15 December 2011

Just received this yesterday and haven't taken it out on the bike yet but from some of my experiments this is what I've found

Short version:

I like it, it definitely works and with the exception of performing firmware upgrades on the camera and time lapse images, the abysmal Cineform software can be avoided simply by importing the .mp4 files into another video converter/editing package.

Long version:

Hardware is nice. Very good build quality.

Video quality is very good. There's a bit more fisheye to it than I expected. Tweaking from the menus reduces it but it's still more than I see in the sample videos online so I must have some tweaking to do yet.

LCD display is very tiny. If you're past the half century mark as I am, you're going to have a hard time selecting modes and configuring it. I got the LCD backpac with it and that makes it much easier to see the icons, though you're still navigating through unfamiliar and low resolution icons using a two button interface.

I really like the hardware quality, and based on the videos from users I've seen, it's got the image quality I want. It's small, it's light and it works.........................

Review Apple iPad 2 MC770LL/A Tablet (32GB, Wifi, Black) 2nd Generation

Wednesday, 14 December 2011

READ  FULL REVIEW>>>

For anyone out there who is considering whether or not to make the leap and purchase the iPad 2, this review is for you. If you're still debating between the iPad 1 and the iPad 2 check out my review of the first generation iPad right here on Amazon to see a discussion of its strengths and weaknesses with a number of people commenting (both positively and negatively) over the past 11 months.

Let me begin by saying this upfront, I don't work for Apple, I don't own Apple Stock, and whether you buy an iPad, Xoom, a laptop or a pad of paper and pencil I don't get anything for writing this. I'm not an Apple "fanboy" although I can give credit where credit is due and lately Apple has deserved a lot of credit for some of their products.

Physical Characteristics
The iPad 2 is absurdly thin. More importantly than it's thinness is its tapered edge which feels more natural in your hand. One of the biggest complaints about the original iPad was it really wasn't tremendously comfortable to hold for long periods at a time. For a tablet device designed to be held, that's a pretty big deal. Apple really has done an amazing job of cramming everything into an even smaller space than before and the difference is really noticeable when you're holding the device. In addition to the tapered edge, Apple managed to reduce the overall weight of the iPad 2. That might not seem like a huge deal to most, especially when you consider the weight difference isn't tremendous when you're already under 2 pounds, but I spend a good part of my day holding the iPad in my hands and the weight difference is surprising by the end of the day. The first generation isn't heavy by any means, but the iPad 2 outshines it..........................

Review Samsung EC-ST700 Digital Camera with 16 MP, 5x Optical Zoom and Touchscreen (Black)

Thursday, 8 December 2011

READ  FULL REVIEW>>>>

I was planning to purchase a new camera back in December 2010 but did a lot of research and at one point I almost purchased the Samsung ST600 but was going to wait until we received our tax refund. I continued my research just in case something new came out and sure enough the ST700 was introduced. I waited until it was available and did some shopping around and found it for $221.00 which I thought was a great price. I have been using it but it has so many features that it is going to take a while to get through them all. The size is just great for all the stuff it has on it and friends are amazed at the quality f the photos and so am I. I also like the interface with my computer using the cable or pulling the card out to insert into the computer. I live in a wooded area and so we have all sorts of animals since we all left our back yards natural and the deer and other animals are there to take live videos and post them on Facebook. I hope t a lot of enjoyment from the camera. I think it was a great buy.......................

Review Xbox 360 Wireless Controller

Friday, 25 November 2011

READ  FULL REVIEW>>>

I've gamed with almost every gamepad imaginable and never before have I used a controller that is so comfortable and easy to use. The Xbox 360 wireless controller is near flawless. Everything from its button layout to its build quality to its comfort level; it's all just perfect.

Never before have my hands wrapped around a controller so naturally. Typically with a controller, you have to make your hands form to the controller in order to access all of the buttons, typically resulting in fingers getting jammed into each other uncomfortably or strecthed out across the controller awkwardly. With the 360 controller, my hands just mold into every angle of the design and my fingers effortlessly wrap around the controller's button layout.

The button layout is as follows: Two analog sticks, D-Pad, four face buttons, two triggers, two shoulder buttons, start & back buttons, and the Xbox Guide Button. I'd give the layout and button design a 10/10. Everything is accessible without having to move your hands from the controller and everything has a solid, durable design. The triggers are smooth and glide with the motion of your fingers and are truly perfect. The shoulder buttons work just fine and are easily accessible (these are where the black and white buttons the from Xbox controller S went). The face buttons have great spring to them and don't feel mushy like the Playstation controller. The analog sticks are an 11/10. Compared to the PS controller in which you jam your fingers into each other and trying to correct out the play in the analog sticks, the 360's sticks are awesome; firm, precise, smooth gliding, and simply perfect. The D-Pad is unchanged from the Xbox controller, which wasn't good to begin with. It works and get the job done, but it could be better. The start and back buttons have moved to the middle of the controller and are better off in the center. And last but not least, the Xbox guide button...................................

Review Apple iPod touch 8GB (4th Generation) - Black - Current Version

Friday, 11 November 2011
Apple iPod touch (4th Generation) NEWEST MODEL

I purchased my Ipod Touch 8G in January, 2011 just for fun and to see what all the fuss was about. I use a laptop and have wireless connectivity in my home. But I don't store music on an Ipod and don't have "smart" cell phone. After using the Ipod Touch for a few months, all I can say is "WOW".

This device is like carrying a small computer in your pocket. I can connect to the internet wirelessly at home and anywhere I can find a public connection--library, cafe, etc. I check my email (read and compose), facebook, Meetups, Ravelry, take pictures and movies, and with the Skype App, can video call my kids. I have become hooked on the Angry Birds game, which is fun to do while waiting anywhere. I have also downloaded audio books from my library to take with me when I travel. I knit and have any pattern I am working on loaded on my Touch so I don't worry about losing it. All this in a 2x4 inch little device I can carry with me everywhere.

I considered getting a smart phone instead, but Verizon's additional mandatory monthly cost of $30/month turned me off. It would be nice to have internet access where ever I am, but I don't need it and don't want to pay $360/year for it. I like the fact that the Ipod Touch does not require any additional monthly costs.........................

Review Samsung DV300F Dual View Smart Camera - Black (EC-DV300FBPBUS)

Friday, 11 November 2011

READ  FULL REVIEW>>>

This camera is not as good as some you can get in this price range, but it has a few very specific features that make it unique and definitely worth it if you are like me, the only photographer of an active family.I bought it almost solely because of the front LCD screen allowing me to take pictures of myself and other family members, and the Wifi Mobile App that allows me to use my cell phone as the viewfinder and picture taking remote, which allows me in even more pictures, and makes setting up posed group shots very easy.

Both of these features work well. There is another App available that allows the camera to send me pictures through Wi-Fi without having to use a computer. Two important things to know about these features is:
1)*Update* The apps are now available to everyone in both Apple and Android Appstores. But Samsung advised me they do not guarantee it to work with non-samsung phones.
2)As with all apps they can be hit and miss, and sometimes take a few tries to get connected and working. They don't come with instructions, you just have to figure them out.

I have tried fiddling with the settings myself, but since you cannot change shutter speed, only ISO and Metering, I was not pleased with any of the results. I get the best pictures on Auto-Mode, which is good news for people who don't want to have to think about settings. As long as it had decent light the pictures are always rich and sharp.
The video shot was very good too although the voices seem a bit muted.............................

Review Google Nexus 7 Tablet - 8GB

Thursday, 6 October 2011

READ  FULL REVIEW>>>

I don't know where to begin.
Being a recent convert to android I thought my galaxy s2 hung the moon but wow, googles vision of software and hardware coalescing in the nexus is a site to behold. Buttered up jellybean runs circles around ics in every way. The voice commands are so precise my days of thumbing away are finished. Absolutely stutter free app and Web use while music is playing and live wallpaper running....tegra3 quad core changes the game. I have read multiple reviews and the biggest joke of the day was comparing it to the fire. A better comparison would have been the Samsung galaxy 2 7in. It's a 200 tab. I've had mine since May and while it has preformed well its not even in the same category as the nexus (example/ sometimes riptide gp would crash and shut the galaxy down, on the nexus it just screams the graphics are killer. If you are in the market for the hottest tech in the world this is for you. As for apple... You had better get some better lawyers......................

Review ViewSonic VX2250WM-LED 22-Inch (21.5-Inch Vis) Widescreen Full HD 1080p LED Monitor with Integrated Stereo Speakers

Thursday, 6 October 2011

I purchased this monitor because I wanted a 22 inch monitor and I didn't want to spend more than $200.

Initial impressions.

This thing is light in weight. Very light. I was able to hold the monitor in one hand/arm and use my other hand to set the base and plug in the power and dvi cable without a much strain. The base is made of plastic and feels cheap. That was my first reaction, when I unwrapped the base. Once I had it on the monitor though it did it's job. This combination though makes the monitor easily wobble if it is not sitting on a sturdy desk/table, keep that in mind. (My desk is very sturdy, so this wasn't an issue.) It comes with a VGA/DVI cable, which was a pleasant surprise.

I'm a programmer.

This monitor arrived at my place of work and as soon as it came, I immediately replaced one of my monitors and worked the whole day with it. It was easy on the eyes and I could see myself using this as my daily programming monitor. It also made my other Dell monitor look old because this monitor has great contract and was bright. Pictures and text looked great on the screen. At the end of the day I did notice that this monitor gives off very little heat, very nice. Had I based my purchasing decision on this experience, it would have been a keeper....................

Review HP ENVY 6-1010us Sleekbook 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)

Friday, 19 August 2011
HP ENVY 6-1010us Sleekbook 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)

I am no tecno geek and my needs are relatively simple when it comes to computing so this laptop fits my lifestyle perfectly. I had no problem setting the Envy 6 up to begin using it. It was ready to go in seconds with its built in wifi. I've used the same Dell XPS for about three years, so this laptop is a welcome addition. It's super lightweight and very thin, not bulky or uncomfortable at all. Compared to my other computer, the Envy 6 is super comfortable to use. I think it would be perfect for students and seniors due to the ease of transport, battery life, and ease of operation and because it is so lightweight. I have been using Windows Vista for several years now so using Windows 7 on this notebook is so much nicer, Vista could be a pain, but I've had no problems with the operating system on this notebook and it has a lot of helpful advice to make using it easier and functional. There is no CD option on this version of the Envy Sleekbook, but it hooks up easily to an external CD drive to install programs or watch movies. The resolution and picture on the Envy is wonderful, after looking at this screen and going back to my Dell was suprising to me. The graphics on the Envy are crisp and colorful. The Envy also has bluetooth/wireless so it can be used with other wireless items like printers and phones.

The Envy also has some great features for pictures. It uses Youcam webcam software and it has a lot of fun options for pictures. My kids have been having a lot of fun using it. There are enough fun things on Youcam to keep them amused for long periods of time, even in low light. When I downloaded pictures from my SD card, the computer separated the pictures by date so I could make different albums vs. lumping them altogether and the software also uses face recognition which is a really cool feature..............................

Review LG 42CS560 42-Inch 1080p 60 Hz LCD HDTV

Saturday, 30 July 2011

LG's lower-mid level sets have earned a reputation for having low gaming lag, great color accuracy, and the most extensive features and picture options of any sets at or even above their price level. The CS560 series still delivers in these regards, but to a lesser extent than earlier models.

The styling and build quality of the set are very good overall. My panel is a S-IPS type and owners on internet forums have confirmed the same, suggesting that LG may not be conducting a panel lottery (randomly shipping VA and IPS panels for the same model) as they have in the past. The buttons are front mounted and touch sensitive, which is a nice feature but makes operating the set in the dark very awkward. One complaint to make about the set is that it buzzes faintly unless the backlight is set to 100, which can be annoying when using the set quietly at night.

The input lag at 1080p seems to average around 1-2 frames, keeping with LG's standard for fast processing time. There is hardly any noticeable increase in lag when upscaling from 480p and I can play timing intensive games and online FPS with no problem. If you're buying this set for gaming, you'll probably be pleased with the lag performance.......................

Review Samsung Galaxy S III / S3 Unlocked GSM Smart Phone (Pebble Blue)

Friday, 17 June 2011

I was a previous iPhone user, until I switched from the 4 to a Galaxy S2, and I loved it, but there were alot of things wrong with the S2, Samsung has listened to user feedback and used their experience to make this 4.8 inch masterpiece. Why do I love this phone so much?

1) Performance - Scrolling is buttery smooth, gaming is buttery smooth, even throwing NOVA 3 at it will not phase that quad-core Exynos 4212 and the improved Mali-400 beast (oh I mean chip) inside this phone. It blows the Tegra 3 and the Snapdragon S4 clean out of the water, sorry One X owners.

2) Audio - The S2 has okay audio quality, it's Yamaha chip was fine for...most people, however it was a bit disappointing compared to even the iPhone's sound quality, so I always used software decoding for listening to music. The S3 has seen Samsung's return to the Wolfson audio chip, and it is absolutely stunning especially with the new SoundAlive system which allows Bass Boosting, Clarity, and Virtualization out of the box.............
